The Beverageers were pleased by Project Cobalt. Not only did they discover new weaponizable isotopes but a tasty beverage additive to boot.
Sol Ring is the most powerful mana acceleration artifact in Magic and a format-defining staple of Commander. For a single generic mana, it produces two colorless mana — a rate of return so efficient that it's restricted in Vintage and banned in Legacy. In Commander, Sol Ring is the most-played card in the format, appearing in virtually every deck regardless of strategy, color identity, or power level. A turn-one Sol Ring accelerates your development by approximately two full turns, enabling explosive plays like turn-two four-drops or turn-three commanders that normally cost six. The card is so ubiquitous that many playgroups debate house-banning it, though the official rules committee has consistently kept it legal. Beyond Commander, Sol Ring sees play in every Vintage deck that can support it and is a first-pick in any Cube draft format. Its inclusion in every preconstructed Commander deck has made it one of the most printed cards in Magic history, keeping it affordable despite its extraordinary power level.
