Creature — Zombie Knight
Whenever a nontoken creature you control dies, this creature deals 1 damage to you and you draw a card.

Midnight Reaper is a powerful black creature from the Dominaria Remastered set that serves as a critical card advantage engine for sacrifice-focused strategies across multiple formats. This three-mana 3/2 Zombie Knight triggers whenever any nontoken creature you control dies, creating a draw engine that punishes your opponents for forcing you to trade creatures while simultaneously filling your hand with resources. The drawback of taking one damage per creature death is minimal when you're executing a cohesive sacrifice strategy, as the card advantage typically outpaces the incidental life total damage, especially in longer games where that extra card per turn becomes exponentially valuable. Midnight Reaper slots seamlessly into numerous deck archetypes that prioritize creature sacrifice synergies. In Pioneer and Modern, it's a cornerstone of Orzhov (white-black) sacrifice decks that pair it with cards like Viscera Seer and Cartel Aristocrat, as well as token-generating engines that deliberately feed your creatures into the graveyard. It finds a home in Aristocrats variants, Jund or Golgari sacrifice strategies, and has proven itself in limited formats during its standard tenure. The card's four-format legality across Standard, Pioneer, Modern, Legacy, and Vintage means serious competitive players have consistent access to this effect, while Commander and Brawl players love the sustained card advantage in multiplayer contexts. At its core, Midnight Reaper represents one of the most efficient sacrifice payoffs available, making it essential for any player building around creature death triggers or seeking to maximize value from their sacrifice outlets.
