Creature — Vampire Assassin
Flying Deathtouch (Any amount of damage this deals to a creature is enough to destroy it.)
The broad avenues and graceful spires of Park Heights are the playground of the affluent. After nightfall, they also make a fine hunting ground.
Midnight Assassin is a compact yet efficient creature that brings serious removal potential to black-focused strategies across multiple formats. This one-mana black vampire assassin combines two of the most valuable keyword abilities in Magic: flying and deathtouch. The flying evasion ensures it can pressure opponents from the air while remaining difficult to block efficiently, while deathtouch transforms it into a creature that trades favorably with virtually any blocker regardless of size. At just two mana for a 1/2 body, you're investing minimal resources into a creature that punches far above its weight in combat scenarios. The deathtouch ability means that even blocked, you're forcing opponents to sacrifice larger threats, making it an excellent defensive and offensive tool simultaneously. This card slots naturally into aggressive black decks, particularly those running flying-themed strategies or sacrifice synergies in Pioneer, Modern, and Legacy formats. It performs exceptionally well in Commander and Oathbreaker decks focused on vampire themes, evasive creatures, or removal-heavy strategies. The creature type opens additional synergies with vampire lords and tribal payoffs. In Pauper and Penny Dreadful, it provides an efficient flying threat that punishes opponents for overextending on the board. For casual players and limited formats like Gladiator, Midnight Assassin offers straightforward, honest gameplay that rewards tactical blocking decisions. Any player looking for an efficient flyer with built-in removal value should consider adding this card to their collection.
