Sorcery
Convoke (Your creatures can help cast this spell. Each creature you tap while casting this spell pays for {1} or one mana of that creature's color.) Destroy all nontoken creatures.
Those who are chosen do not doubt. Those who remain do not lament.
Hour of Reckoning is a powerful board wipe that stands out in white's removal arsenal thanks to its innovative use of the convoke mechanic, making it significantly more flexible than traditional mass destruction spells. With a converted mana cost of seven, this sorcery would typically be demanding, but convoke transforms it into a mana-efficient option that rewards players for developing board presence. By tapping your creatures during casting, you can reduce the actual mana investment required, potentially casting this as early as turn four or five in creature-heavy strategies. The spell's sweeping effect destroys all nontoken creatures, which is crucial wording that preserves your token generators and token army while wiping your opponent's board, giving you a significant tempo advantage in the right deck construction. This card fits beautifully into several archetypes across multiple formats: in Modern and Legacy, it slots into token-focused white strategies like Boros Tokens or Selesnya Company decks where you're generating multiple creatures anyway; in Commander, it's an excellent finisher for white-based token or convoke strategies that want to leverage their board presence as both offense and mana acceleration. The spell is legal across Modern, Legacy, Vintage, Commander, Oathbreaker, and several other formats, giving it excellent versatility. Players should strongly consider Hour of Reckoning if they're building around creature synergies, token generation, or convoke mechanics, as it provides both board control and mana efficiency while working synergistically with their game plan rather than against it.
