Endless Detour

Breaking News rare

Instant

The owner of target spell, nonland permanent, or card in a graveyard puts it on their choice of the top or bottom of their library.

Strategy & Gameplay

Endless Detour is a versatile utility instant that offers flexible answers to a wide range of threats while maintaining tempo in your favor. This three-mana spell with green, white, and blue in its mana cost provides incredible utility by allowing you to target not just active spells on the stack, but also permanents that are already in play and even cards languishing in graveyards. The key flexibility here is that the owner of the targeted permanent, spell, or card chooses whether it goes to the top or bottom of their library, which means you're essentially creating a soft lock on problematic cards while giving your opponent an illusion of choice that rarely matters in your favor. The instant speed makes this particularly valuable, as you can hold it up for countermagic while still applying pressure, or cast it at the end of your opponent's turn to disrupt their strategy without using up your own turn's resources. Endless Detour fits seamlessly into any deck that already has access to green, white, and blue mana, making it an excellent fit for control-focused archetypes, value-oriented midrange strategies, and even some tempo decks that need an answer to problematic threats. The card's legality across Historic, Pioneer, Modern, Legacy, Vintage, and Commander formats means it's a solid investment for players building in any of these competitive or casual environments. For commander players specifically, this becomes an exceptional piece of interaction that doesn't remove permanents from the game, making it safer against graveyard recursion strategies while still providing meaningful disruption against threats ranging from aggressive creatures to major enchantments or artifacts that would otherwise dominate the game.
