Strategy & Gameplay

Corrupted Conviction represents an exceptional value engine for black-based control and sacrifice strategies across multiple competitive formats. This single black mana instant demands the sacrifice of a creature as an additional cost, but rewards you with two cards drawn, effectively turning a creature you were already planning to lose into a significant card advantage engine. The instant-speed nature of this effect cannot be overstated, as it allows you to hold up mana for interaction while still generating value when you tap out, or to sacrifice a creature in response to removal, transforming what would be a two-for-one against you into a neutral exchange that leaves you ahead on cards. In Standard and Pioneer, Corrupted Conviction slots seamlessly into sacrifice-focused archetypes that already feature tokens, recursive creatures, or expendable blockers, turning your deck's built-in creature generation into raw card draw. The card finds a natural home in Modern Murktide decks and other tempo shells where you can sacrifice tokens or cheap creatures for incremental advantage. Commander players, particularly those building Prosper Tome-Bound, Viscera Seer, or other sacrifice-focused commanders, will appreciate the flexible draw attached to a mechanic that synergizes with their core strategy. Even in formats like Pioneer and Modern where creature removal is prevalent, the ability to convert blockers or creatures destined for the graveyard into card advantage makes Corrupted Conviction a smart inclusion that smooths your mana while ensuring you're never truly behind on resources.
