Creature — Human Archer
Reach Whenever a creature with flying attacks you or a planeswalker you control, this creature deals damage equal to its power to that creature.
"Ma cosa?! Shoot! Shoot the flying demon!"
Palazzo Archers is a deceptively strong defensive creature that excels in any green-based strategy looking to combat aggressive flying threats. This two-mana Human Archer offers excellent defensive value with its 2/3 body paired with reach, allowing it to block and trade with flying creatures that would otherwise go unchecked. However, the real power lies in its triggered ability: whenever a creature with flying attacks you or a planeswalker you control, Palazzo Archers deals damage equal to its power to that attacking creature. This creates a punishing effect that discourages opponents from attacking with their flying threats, as even evasive creatures must take two damage per attack, making them vulnerable to removal or forcing unfavorable attacks. The card shines in limited formats where flying is a premium evasion mechanic, but it also finds homes in constructed formats where flying-heavy decks are prevalent. In Modern and Legacy, Palazzo Archers fits naturally into control decks, midrange strategies, and even some tempo shells that appreciate efficient defensive creatures with utility. The creature's modest mana cost makes it easy to deploy early, and it scales defensively throughout the game. Commander players appreciate its versatility as a repeatable answer to aerial threats while providing board presence. Its legality across Modern, Legacy, Vintage, Commander, Oathbreaker, and Duel Commander formats makes it a worthwhile inclusion for anyone building around small green creatures or looking for unconventional ways to handle evasive threats without relying solely on traditional removal spells.
