Legendary Creature — Elf Faerie Noble
Flying Whenever Maralen or another Elf or Faerie you control enters, exile the top two cards of target opponent's library. Once each turn, you may cast a spell with mana value less than or equal to the number of Elves and Faeries you control from among cards exiled with Maralen this turn without paying its mana cost.
Maralen, Fae Ascendant is a powerful five-mana legendary creature that serves as both a defensive flyer and a unique milling engine with built-in card advantage for Elf and Faerie-focused decks. The flying ability immediately makes this a relevant threat on the board, while the primary ability creates an interesting strategic axis by exiling cards from target opponent's library whenever any Elf or Faerie you control enters the battlefield. This triggered ability stacks efficiently in go-wide strategies, allowing you to rapidly build an exile zone filled with potential resources. The secondary ability transforms Maralen into a card advantage engine by letting you cast spells with mana value equal to or less than your Elf and Faerie count from the exiled cards without paying their mana costs, once per turn. This means that in a deck loaded with token generators or other creatures that create multiple Elf or Faerie tokens, you can quickly reach a point where you're essentially getting free spells every turn, representing significant value acceleration. Players would want this card for creature-heavy Elf or Faerie strategies across multiple formats, particularly in Pioneer, Modern, and Commander where these creature types have strong synergistic support. The card fits naturally into elf token strategies, fairy-themed decks, or hybrid lists that combine both creature types. In Commander specifically, Maralen works exceptionally well in the 99 of Elf or Faerie commanders and could even be considered as a commander in Dimir or Grixis-inclusive formats. The card's flexibility, reasonable mana cost for its stats, evasion, and scalable value generation make it an excellent inclusion for players who enjoy grinding value while controlling the game through creature synergies. Beyond just casual appeal, Maralen provides competitive potential in any format where creature density is already high, making it a smart pickup for both casual enthusiasts and competitive players exploring new archetypes.
