Strategy & Gameplay

Locke, Treasure Hunter from the FIC set is a versatile two-mana legendary creature that brings genuine strategic depth to Rakdos (black-red) strategies across multiple formats. This 2/3 Human Rogue excels at eluding traditional block patterns thanks to its evasion ability, making it nearly impossible for opponents to stop combat damage using standard defensive tactics. The real power emerges from its "Mug" ability, which triggers on each attack and creates a three-pronged value engine: it mills a card from each player's library, generates a Treasure token whenever a land is milled, and provides temporary access to any card milled this way until end of turn. This combination makes Locke exceptional in both aggressive and grindy shells, as it simultaneously disrupts opponent resources, generates mana acceleration through Treasures, and offers the possibility of casting their own milled cards. The card fits naturally into mill-focused decks that leverage self-mill strategies, treasure-generation shells looking for additional ramp sources, and tempo-focused Rakdos lists that appreciate evasive threats with card advantage. Locke's flexibility across historic, legacy, vintage, commander, and other constructed formats means this is a genuinely competitive option for multiple metagames. Players seeking a card that generates value while applying pressure at a reasonable mana cost should absolutely consider including Locke in their collection. The combination of evasion, mana generation, and pseudo-card advantage makes this an efficient threat that rewards careful sequencing and deck construction.
