Legendary Creature — Elf Archer
Reach Whenever you scry, if Legolas is tapped, you may untap it. Do this only once each turn. Whenever a creature an opponent controls dies, put a +1/+1 counter on Legolas.
"Two?" said Legolas. "I make my tale twenty at the least."
Legolas, Counter of Kills is a compelling blue-green legendary creature that rewards players for building around scry mechanics while simultaneously punishing opponents for creature losses, making it an excellent choice for midrange and control-focused decks that value synergy and incremental advantage. This two-mana investment offers immediate value with its reach ability, providing useful defensive coverage against flying threats while maintaining the threat of becoming a growing clock through its death-trigger ability. The real power of Legolas emerges when you combine its untap clause with consistent scry effects found throughout blue-green shells, allowing you to generate additional mana acceleration and card advantage while keeping your legendary creature active and able to block or attack throughout the game. The third ability is particularly potent in Commander formats where creature removal and board wipes are frequent, as Legolas naturally scales in power as the game progresses and threats are removed. This card fits perfectly into Sultai or Simic control decks that already run multiple scry effects like Counterspell variants and cantrips, as well as into midrange strategies that leverage creature-based removal like Murktide or other self-mill synergies. With availability across Modern, Legacy, Vintage, and particularly Commander where it shines brightest, Legolas provides a flexible lord-like effect that doesn't require tribal synergies, making it an efficient way to generate value in green-blue decks that want a hybrid creature that contributes both defensively and offensively while turning corner cards into incremental growth engines.
