Creature — Lizard
Flash When this creature enters, until end of turn, whenever a nontoken creature you control dies, create a number of 1/1 green Saproling creature tokens equal to that creature's power.
Jund doesn't have a food chain so much as a mass feeding frenzy.
This is a versatile and impactful creature that brings both immediate board presence and powerful token generation synergies to black-green strategies. At four mana for a 4/4 with flash, you're already getting a solid rate that can fit into the midrange portion of your curve while maintaining flexibility. The flash ability is particularly valuable, allowing you to hold up mana for interaction or other plays before deploying this creature at the end of turn, making it difficult for opponents to play around your board development. The enter-the-battlefield ability creates a unique sacrifice synergy engine that rewards you for the natural attrition of your creatures. Until end of turn, whenever a nontoken creature you control dies, you'll generate 1/1 green Saproling tokens equal to that creature's power, potentially creating multiple tokens from a single sacrifice. This makes the card exceptional in any deck built around creature sacrifice strategies, particularly those incorporating persist creatures, undying mechanics, or other recursive elements that trigger death repeatedly. In Commander, this card excels in Jarad-style graveyard strategies, sacrifice-themed decks, and any Golgari shell that naturally churns through creatures. The token generation also synergizes beautifully with aristocrat effects and payoff cards that care about tokens entering the battlefield. The card's legality across legacy, vintage, commander, and penny dreadful formats makes it accessible regardless of your preferred competitive environment, though it will most likely see its highest impact in casual and Commander settings where sacrifice synergies are more deeply developed.
