Strategy & Gameplay

Hurler Cyclops is a powerhouse red creature from Dominaria United that offers excellent value as both a substantial body and a repeatable damage source in the right deck construction. With a mana cost of three generic and two red, this five-power, four-toughness cyclops provides impressive rate for Limited formats while remaining relevant in Constructed play. The creature's activated ability is the real standout feature: for just one generic mana and a sacrificed creature, you can direct one damage to any target, effectively turning excess creatures or tokens into a pinging engine that can close out games, deal with utility creatures, or push through the final points of damage your opponent needs to take. This makes Hurler Cyclops particularly attractive in aggressive red strategies and sacrifice-focused decks that generate multiple bodies, such as token strategies, go-wide red decks, or decks featuring cards that produce creature tokens or value creatures. The card slots into Pioneer, Modern, Legacy, Vintage, and Commander formats, making it accessible to players across multiple competitive and casual environments. For Commander specifically, Hurler Cyclops works excellently in sacrifice-themed decks or aggressive red strategies that can leverage the pinged damage while filling the board. Players appreciate this card because it punishes opponents who can't close out games quickly while providing a grindy alternative win condition and excellent creature stats that ensure the cyclops applies meaningful pressure immediately upon entering the battlefield.
