Creature — Goblin Warrior
{2}{R}, {T}, Put a -1/-1 counter on a creature you control: This creature deals 2 damage to any target.
"It's not much for eating, but I think we can find somethin' to do with it."
Hatchet Bully is a versatile red creature that brings both evasion and repeatable damage potential to the table, making it an excellent addition to any aggressive red strategy or sacrifice-focused deck. As a 3/3 creature for four mana, it provides a solid body that can apply pressure immediately, but its true value lies in its activated ability that transforms your own creatures into direct damage sources. The ability to tap and put a -1/-1 counter on one of your creatures to deal 2 damage to any target creates incredible synergy with decks built around sacrifice outlets, expendable creatures, or strategies that benefit from creatures entering or leaving the battlefield. This makes Hatchet Bully particularly strong in goblin decks, where expendable tokens and temporary creatures are abundant, as well as in broader red aggressive shells and attrition-based strategies. The card's flexibility cannot be overstated. In decks running creatures with low toughness that were headed to the graveyard anyway, Hatchet Bully essentially converts dead cards into direct damage, providing reach and inevitability in longer games. It's legal across multiple formats including Modern, Legacy, Vintage, and Commander, giving players options regardless of their preferred play environment. While the four-mana investment requires some setup, the repeatable damage ability ensures Hatchet Bully generates value turn after turn, making it an efficient threat that rewards strategic deckbuilding and clever sequencing during gameplay.
