Hardened Escort

Duskmourn: House of Horror common

Creature — Human Soldier

Whenever this creature attacks, another target creature you control gets +1/+0 and gains indestructible until end of turn. (Damage and effects that say "destroy" don't destroy it.)

P/T: 2/4

"It's not magic. I read the writing on the House's walls. I listen to its sighs. I smell the changes in its air. It tells me where danger lies."

Strategy & Gameplay

Hardened Escort is a versatile white creature that brings both defensive utility and offensive synergy to aggressive and midrange strategies. As a two-mana 2/4 body, it provides excellent blocking capabilities while remaining relevant when attacking, making it a solid early-game play that doesn't immediately trade away. The card's triggered ability shines in decks built around creature-heavy strategies, offering a pseudo-evasion mechanic and protection all in one package. Whenever Hardened Escort attacks, you designate another creature you control to receive +1/+0 and indestructible until end of turn, which accomplishes multiple strategic goals simultaneously. This pump effect enables favorable trades by allowing your creatures to deal damage that would normally result in unfavorable exchanges, while the indestructible grant protects your key threats from removal spells and mass wrath effects during combat. The card particularly excels in token-focused white decks, go-wide strategies, and creature-centric midrange shells where you're commonly attacking with multiple creatures. In Standard and Pioneer formats, it synergizes beautifully with token generators and small creature strategies. For Commander and casual formats, it becomes increasingly powerful in decks that create multiple token copies or run creature-heavy game plans. Hardened Escort also pairs exceptionally well with cards that reward attacking, such as cards with exert mechanics or effects that trigger on creatures entering combat. Whether you're playing aggressive white decks in constructed formats or building token-heavy strategies in Limited, this unassuming Human Soldier offers both the durability and the combat push necessary to turn marginal board states into winning positions. Its format legality across nearly every sanctioned format makes it a worthwhile acquisition for players investing in white creature decks.
