Guardian of the Forgotten

Modern Horizons 3 uncommon

Creature — Elephant Warrior

Vigilance Whenever a modified creature you control dies, manifest the top card of your library. (Equipment, Auras you control, and counters are modifications. To manifest a card, put the top card of your library onto the battlefield face down as a 2/2 creature. Turn it face up any time for its mana cost if it's a creature card.)

Strategy & Gameplay

Guardian of the Forgotten is a compelling white creature from Modern Horizons 3 that offers excellent value in any strategy built around equipment and aura synergies. At four mana for a 4/4 body with vigilance, you're already getting a solid rate for the baseline stats alone, but the manifest trigger transforms this card into a card advantage engine that rewards you for playing the modified creature strategy that's increasingly popular in competitive and casual Magic. The vigilance ability is particularly important here because it allows Guardian to attack without tapping, meaning you can swing with your modified creatures while keeping this elephant warrior active for defense or future attacks. The manifest mechanic creates interesting gameplay moments where you're essentially drawing cards whenever your modified creatures die, turning what would normally be a tempo loss into a resource advantage. This works exceptionally well in white-based strategies that lean heavily into equipment like Hardened Scales decks, Auras-based strategies, or the rising Bogles-style decks that have gained new tools in recent sets. The card is legal in all major formats including Modern, Legacy, Vintage, and Commander, making it a flexible addition to numerous decks. In Commander particularly, this card finds homes in equipment-focused commanders like Sram, Senior Edificer or in token strategies where sacrificing modified creatures is part of your game plan. Players should add Guardian of the Forgotten to their collection as a versatile piece that generates card advantage while supporting an increasingly viable archetype.
