Enchantment
When this enchantment enters, you draw three cards, gain 6 life, and create three 2/1 black Bat creature tokens with flying. At the beginning of your end step, you discard a card, lose 2 life, and sacrifice a creature. When this enchantment leaves the battlefield, you discard three cards, lose 6 life, and sacrifice three creatures.
Greed's Gambit is a powerful black enchantment that offers explosive value for decks built around sacrifice synergies and life gain strategies. This three-mana spell creates an immediate impact upon entering the battlefield, drawing three cards while simultaneously gaining six life and generating three 2/1 flying tokens that can pressure opponents or serve as sacrifice fodder. The card's name perfectly reflects its mechanics: you're making a bargain with immediate rewards offset by ongoing costs. While the recurring end-of-step trigger requires you to discard a card, lose two life, and sacrifice a creature each turn, this downside is minimal for decks specifically designed to leverage these effects. Aristocrat and sacrifice-focused decks can turn the Bat tokens into value engines, using them for triggers from cards like Blood Artist, Zulaport Cutthroat, or Viscera Seer before the mandatory sacrifice. The life loss actually synergizes perfectly with decks running payoffs from losing life, while the card draw helps maintain resources. Even the exit clause becomes an advantage in decks that benefit from mass sacrifice effects or discard triggers. This card shines in Standard and Pioneer midrange black decks, particularly in sacrifice-heavy shells, and gains even more utility in Commander where sacrifice outlets are abundant and the initial value can dominate the early game. In Legacy and Vintage, it competes with other black card advantage engines but remains viable in dedicated sacrifice strategies. Greed's Gambit rewards deckbuilding creativity and punishes opponents who aren't prepared for the immediate board presence and card advantage it generates.
