Final Fantasy Commander rare

Creature — Devil

Undying (When this creature dies, if it had no +1/+1 counters on it, return it to the battlefield under its owner's control with a +1/+1 counter on it.) Whenever this creature or another creature enters from your graveyard, that creature deals damage equal to its power to any target.

P/T: 4/2
Strategy & Gameplay

Flayer of the Hatebound is a powerful recursive threat that punishes opponents for every creature that enters the battlefield from your graveyard, making it an exceptional inclusion in graveyard-focused strategies. At five generic and one red mana, this 4/2 Devil creature provides immediate value while offering exceptional staying power through its undying mechanic, which ensures it returns to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter whenever it dies without already having counters on it. The combination of undying and its triggered ability creates a devastating loop in decks built around reanimation and creature recursion. When Flayer of the Hatebound dies and returns, its ability triggers immediately, dealing damage equal to its now 5 power to any target. This makes it particularly valuable in Modern and Legacy formats where cards like Murktide, Dragon's Rage Channeler, and other self-mill or graveyard-filling strategies are prevalent. The card fits perfectly into Izzet Murktide strategies, Grixis control shells, and especially Mardu or Rakdos graveyard midrange decks that can leverage cards like Unmarked Grave, Unholy Heat, and other graveyard synergies. In Commander, particularly in strategies centered around Kroxa, Titan of Death's Hunger or similar commanders, this creature generates exponential value and threatens lethal damage. Even casual graveyard players appreciate how efficiently it converts graveyard interaction into direct damage while remaining difficult to permanently remove. The undying mechanic ensures it's never a true one-time investment, making it a reliable engine piece in any deck seeking to weaponize its graveyard.
