Creature — Homarid Mercenary

Whenever you commit a crime, each opponent mills three cards. This ability triggers only once each turn. (Targeting opponents, anything they control, and/or cards in their graveyards is a crime.)

Strategy & Gameplay

Deepmuck Desperado is a versatile blue creature that brings consistent mill pressure to any deck built around the crime mechanic, making it an excellent addition to crime-focused strategies across multiple formats. As a 2/4 body for just two mana, the Homarid Mercenary provides solid defensive stats while offering meaningful utility through its triggered ability. Every time you commit a crime—whether by targeting an opponent, their permanents, or their graveyard—Deepmuck Desperado mills three cards from each opponent's library, but this effect only triggers once per turn, preventing runaway acceleration while still providing reliable, repeatable mill value. This makes the card particularly synergistic with blue's natural crime enablers like Sneaky Slip, Paranoid Parish-Blade, and other targeted disruptive effects that would otherwise be one-dimensional. The mill effect is especially valuable in formats where graveyard interaction matters, as it not only applies direct library pressure but also sets up your opponents' graveyards for potential graveyard-based strategies or mill finishes. Deepmuck Desperado slots well into crime-centric standard and pioneer decks that are already running targeted spells, making it a card that doesn't require deck restructuring to include. The creature's defensive capabilities mean it can hold the ground while your crime triggers pile up, and its milling effect compounds over multiple turns into serious library depletion. This card is ideal for players who want to build around the crime mechanic and appreciate having a passive mill engine that rewards their existing spell selection rather than forcing them into specialized mill strategies.
