Deathreap Ritual

Duskmourn: House of Horror Commander uncommon

Enchantment

Morbid — At the beginning of each end step, if a creature died this turn, you may draw a card.

There is no atrocity Valgavoth's devotees would not commit for the promise of freedom from fear.

Strategy & Gameplay

Deathreap Ritual is a powerful enchantment that rewards players for engaging in creature-based combat and sacrifice strategies, making it an excellent addition to any deck built around the morbid mechanic. This three-mana card requires both black and green mana, positioning it perfectly in Golgari color combinations where creature death is not merely inevitable but actively encouraged. The morbid ability triggers at the beginning of each end step whenever a creature has died during that turn, allowing you to draw a card, which translates to consistent card advantage turn after turn. This mechanic synergizes exceptionally well with sacrifice-focused archetypes, particularly those running cards like Viscera Seer, Zulaport Cutthroat, or other death-trigger outlets that incentivize sending creatures to the graveyard. Deathreap Ritual fits seamlessly into Commander decks helmed by commanders like Meren of Clan Nel Toth, Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord, or any aristocrats-themed strategy that prioritizes creature death as a resource. In Legacy and Vintage formats, this card provides incremental advantage in midrange and control shells that can protect it while generating value. The relatively modest mana investment means you can establish the enchantment early and begin drawing cards immediately once your creatures start dying. Since Morbid requires only that a creature died during the turn rather than requiring you to sacrifice creatures directly, Deathreap Ritual generates value even from combat deaths and removal spells targeting your creatures, making it a versatile engine in any format where you control the board and engage in creature-heavy gameplay.
