Strategy & Gameplay

Deadly Complication is a versatile Glenthorne sorcery that brings real flexibility to Rakdos strategies across multiple formats. At just one black and one red mana with a generic red pip, this card exemplifies efficient modal design by offering two distinct modes that can both be cast simultaneously, making it considerably more powerful than its low mana cost suggests. The first mode functions as straightforward creature removal, destroying target creature without restriction, which gives you reliable answers to threatening board states. The second mode interacts specifically with suspected creatures, allowing you to pump a creature you control with a +1/+1 counter while optionally removing the suspected status, which opens up interesting synergies with Rakdos suspected archetypes that have gained prominence since the Murders at Karlov Manor set. The flexibility of choosing one or both modes makes Deadly Complication particularly attractive in constructed decks that can consistently generate suspected creatures, effectively turning it into a creature removal spell that also advances your board development plan. Players should prioritize Deadly Complication because it demands efficient resource management from opponents while providing game-ending versatility in the right shell. In Standard and Pioneer, aggressive Rakdos suspected decks can leverage both modes to answer threats while growing their own creatures, and in Commander or Brawl formats, the modal flexibility makes it an excellent addition to any Rakdos strategy. Its broad legality across formats from Pioneer through Vintage ensures this card maintains relevance whether you're building constructed decks or exploring multiplayer options, making it a worthwhile investment for players committed to black-red strategies.
