If you control a Swamp, you may sacrifice a creature rather than pay this spell's mana cost. Creatures you control get +2/+0 until end of turn.

Strategy & Gameplay

Dark Triumph is a powerful tempo and sacrifice-themed instant from PLST that offers exceptional flexibility for black-based aggro and midrange strategies. At its core, this four-mana black instant grants all your creatures +2/+0 until end of turn, turning your board into a lethal attacking force while forcing opponents into difficult blocking decisions. What makes Dark Triumph truly exceptional, however, is its alternative casting cost: if you control a Swamp, you can sacrifice a creature instead of paying the four mana requirement, transforming this card into a devastating mid-combat trick that punishes opponents who've overextended their defenses. This mechanic creates incredible synergies with sacrifice-focused deck archetypes, particularly in formats like Legacy and Vintage where efficient creatures and sacrifice outlets are abundant. In Commander, Dark Triumph shines in aristocrat strategies alongside commanders like Ayara, First of Locthwain or Zulaport Cutthroat decks, where sacrificing creatures generates additional value through death triggers while the pump effect closes out games. The card is also premodern legal, giving it historical relevance in that format's creature-centric metagame. Players seek out Dark Triumph because it offers both efficiency and versatility: it's a mana-efficient combat trick when you need a fast answer, yet functions as a mana accelerator through sacrifice when you've built your deck appropriately. The combination of evasion through pump effects and synergy with sacrifice mechanics makes this an underrated gem in any black deck built around creature sacrifice and token generation strategies.
