Sacrifice a land. Search your library for up to two basic land cards, put them onto the battlefield tapped, then shuffle.

Cycle of Renewal is a versatile green instant from The Lost Caverns of Ixalan that offers intelligent mana fixing and land acceleration wrapped in a deceptively simple package. While the card requires you to sacrifice a land as part of its cost, the ability to search for up to two basic lands and put them directly onto the battlefield—albeit tapped—makes this an excellent tool for smoothing out your mana base while ramping toward your game plan. This card particularly shines in decks that benefit from landfall triggers, as you're effectively converting a single land into two different types while simultaneously triggering any landfall abilities you may have in play. The instant speed nature of this spell provides crucial flexibility, allowing you to respond to threats or set up your mana at the end of an opponent's turn rather than committing resources during your main phase. From a strategic perspective, Cycle of Renewal fits naturally into green-based midrange and control strategies that need consistent color fixing without sacrificing tempo. It's particularly valuable in formats like Commander and Pioneer where mana consistency can make or break a deck's functionality. The card works exceptionally well in decks running fetchlands or other land sacrifice outlets, turning what appears to be a drawback into an advantage. Its status as a Lesson makes it sideboard-accessible in Limited formats and relevant in Constructed strategies utilizing tutors that can fetch Lessons directly. With legal standing across virtually every Magic format from Standard to Vintage, Cycle of Renewal deserves consideration whenever you're building a green deck that prioritizes mana stability and strategic land deployment over raw acceleration metrics.
