Enchantment — Aura
Flash Enchant creature Enchanted creature gets +2/+2 as long as it's a Detective you control. Otherwise, it has base power and toughness 1/1 and can't block Detectives.
"You must have known all those lies would catch up to you eventually."
Burden of Proof is a versatile blue aura from Murders at Karlov Manor that offers compelling utility for Detective-focused strategies while serving as a flexible defensive tool. This one-mana enchantment features flash, allowing you to cast it at instant speed for maximum flexibility during combat or in response to threats, making it a valuable addition to tempo-oriented decks. The card's dual nature makes it particularly strong: if you control a Detective, the enchanted creature receives a significant +2/+2 boost, pushing aggressive creatures past critical damage thresholds or enabling combat tricks. Conversely, when attached to non-Detective creatures, Burden of Proof transforms them into nearly useless blockers by reducing their stats to 1/1 and preventing them from blocking Detectives, essentially neutralizing problematic blockers while your own Detective creatures attack freely. The strategic applications are substantial across multiple formats. In Standard and Limited formats, Burden of Proof slots naturally into Detective-themed decks that are actively building around the creature type, providing both offensive pumps and disruption. In Pioneer, Modern, and Legacy, the card offers control and tempo decks a reasonable way to interact with threats while maintaining pressure. The flash mechanic ensures you're never caught tapped out, and the flexibility to pump your own creatures or neutralize opponents' defenses makes it a genuine interaction piece rather than a narrow sideboard card. Format legality across nearly every constructed and Commander format means this card has broad applicability for collection building.
