Legendary Creature — Goblin Warlock

Ward—Blight 2. (To blight 2, a player puts two -1/-1 counters on a creature they control.) Whenever one or more -1/-1 counters are put on a creature, draw a card if you control that creature. If you don't control it, its controller loses 1 life.

Strategy & Gameplay

Auntie Ool, Cursewretch is a powerful multicolor legendary creature that brings sophisticated interaction to any deck built around proliferation and -1/-1 counter synergies. This four-mana 4/4 goblin warlock offers incredible card advantage while simultaneously protecting itself through the ward blight 2 mechanic, making it remarkably difficult for opponents to remove without committing significant resources. The ward ability requires opponents to put two -1/-1 counters on one of their own creatures, which is a steep cost in most matchups and often forces players into difficult decisions about sacrificing their own board presence. The triggered ability creates a powerful two-pronged strategy: whenever -1/-1 counters are placed on creatures you control, you draw cards and generate value, while any counters on your opponent's creatures result in life drain, essentially punishing them for activating their own effects or forcing them to take damage in the process. This card slots seamlessly into dedicated -1/-1 counter strategies, particularly in Commander and Legacy formats where commanders like Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons or Atraxa, Praetors' Voice thrive on counter manipulation. It's also an excellent include in any Jund or Sultai control shell that features proliferate effects, since Auntie Ool amplifies your counter generation while building your hand. The flexibility across multiple formats, including Historic, Timeless, Legacy, Vintage, and Commander, makes this a versatile addition to any serious player's collection. Whether you're playing competitively or casually, this creature provides both evasion and card advantage that justifies its mana investment while forcing opponents to play around its unique protection ability.
